Our story

Our story begins back in 2018. Bas Pelly, a Brisbane Primary School Teacher, knew there was a whole lot more fun to be had in the school holidays. So he created GAME ON! Sports Camps to give kids something exciting, safe, and active to do!

We love Game On. Bas and the team are the best and my kids have the greatest time there.

FAQs

What does a day of GAME ON! look like?

8am: We start the day by welcoming parents/guardians and their little athletes. To ease into the morning, kids can enjoy free play with hula hoops, Vortexes, grip-balls, or simply catch up with friends. However, most dive straight into the action, jumping into one of our legendary morning games of Bin-ball or Soccer.

9am: We gather for our Welcome Talk, where we go over our rules, values, and the exciting activities planned for the day. From there, we break into age groups for our first round of activities. Whether it’s competitive footbal drills, Oztag, or fun team-based challenges, there’s something here for everyone!

After these activities, it’s time for a well-deserved morning-tea break in the shade. This is followed by an optional Fitness Challenge. From Beep Tests and Boot Camps to 500-meter sprints, these challenges are always met with enthusiasm by kids eager to burn off some energy.

10:30am: Next, we cool off with some water fun. Everyone grabs their bags and heads to the pool where our kids rotate through 3-4 exciting activities: Dive for Treasure, Classic Catches, Modified water polo, and free swim time.

12:00pm: Once we’re all dried off, we take a break to enjoy a Zooper Dooper and lunch. Afterwards, kids have free time to play handball, shoot some hoops, or just relax before settling into a movie in the air con.

2:30pm: We wrap up the day and come together again to announce our Athlete of the Day awards. It’s a great chance for everyone to reflect on all the amazing things they accomplished, and to celebrate each other’s efforts.

3:00pm: Finally, we head back to the pick-up area, tired but happy, ready for one last game.

3:30-4pm: The children sit down in a group in the shade, and we call over each child individually once their parents/guardians have arrived for pick-up. By 4pm, every child has been collected, and the anticipation begins building for the next day of adventure and excitement at GAME ON!.

Yes. We have strict guidelines, policies, and risk assessments when we are at the pool. This includes always having a trained Pool Lifeguard present. Their job is to ensure the safety of all participants by carefully observing children swimming and being prepared for any emergency situations that may arise.

We also have strict adult-to-child-supervision ratios that all staff must follow at the pool. Staff know these ratios and the importance of adhering to them. These ratios are:

Activity Age Group Location Ratio
Swimming
5- to 6-year-olds
MCA Pool
1:8
7- to 8-year-olds
MCA Pool
1:12
9+ year olds
MCA Pool
1:15

At the pool, children are broken into 3-4 groups (depending on participation numbers) and supervised under the above ratios. Children are briefed on safety and expectations prior to swimming and asked to leave the pool if they are unable to follow.

Yes! We organise children into groups to ensure adult-to-child-supervision ratios are being met. This also means children have the opportunity to play games catered to their age group.

We do of course want to pair children up with friends or family members, as this helps improve enjoyment/ease anxiety. We do ask however, that when pairing children up with other children of different ages, the older child needs to join the younger child’s group. This is so we don’t have younger children in older groups where the adult-to-child-supervision ratio is catering to older children.

We make sure all children are safe and supervised at all times. Please see adult-to-child-supervision ratios below:

At GAME ON!, your child’s safety is our top priority, and we’re committed to creating a nurturing, inclusive environment where every child feels welcomed. A key advantage of having Primary School Teachers on staff is their expertise in fostering a sense of belonging and ensuring the safety of all our athletes.

Each day, as part of our Welcome Talk, we introduce our safety routines and core values through a simple, easy-to-remember acronym:

G — Grab a Mate
Always bring a buddy when heading to the drink station or the bathroom.

A — Always Speak Up
If you’re feeling unwell, sad, injured or see or hear anything that doesn’t seem right, we encourage you to speak up.

M — Make Someone’s Day
We celebrate kindness and inclusivity. Always look for ways to make someone’s day brighter.

E — (In case of) an Emergency
We make sure all children know the emergency procedures so they feel prepared.

O — Outside 3
Remember to always wear hats and sunscreen, and stay hydrated with plenty of water.

N — No Nuts, No Phones
For everyone’s safety, we have a strict “no nuts” policy and ask that phones are left at home or in bags.

! — Welcome New Children
We introduce new kids to their peers and staff, creating an instant sense of belonging. Plus, we remind everyone about the Athlete of the Day awards, given to children who exemplify our core values, show great skills, or demonstrate improvement.

The Welcome Talk is just one of the many ways we ensure that GAME ON! is a safe, welcoming place for all participants. We pride ourselves on creating an atmosphere where your child can thrive both physically and emotionally and go home feeling proud and content with their achievements throughout the day.

Absolutely! At GAME ON!, we embrace athletes of all abilities and experience levels. We understand that not every child is passionate about every sport, and that’s why we offer a variety of games, team-based challenges and activities and to suit all interests. Whether it’s refereeing, helping your team problem solve, or choosing the next banger on our playlist, every child’s unique skills and preferences are valued and celebrated.

GAME ON! isn’t just about playing sports either — it’s about having fun and enjoying the day. From swimming and enjoying Zooper Doopers to watching a movie in the air-conditioned comfort, there’s something for everyone. And with plenty of free time to hang out with friends and explore new games, your child will have a great time, regardless of their level of athleticism.
